Working as a  free-standing material with unmatch electrochemical properities, boron doped diamond electrode, in addition to its superior material characteristics, offers many important advantages that make it an interesting material for electrochemical studies. It has been considered as an excellent electrode material for electro-oxidation degradation of active organic compounds in different types of wastewater or in due to its good physical and chemical properties.

Electro-oxidation processes set application of electric current to create potential between the anodic and cathodic electrode materials, as a polar molecule,water exhibits a positive and negative end.                          During the water electrolysis processes, the positively charged hydrogen atoms are attracted to the cathode, while the negatively charged oxygen atoms are drawn towards the anode. As a result, the water molecules disaffiliate into their respective ions: hydrogen ions (H+) at the cathode and hydroxide ions (OH-,hydroxyl radicals) at the anode.                                                                                                                                                                  The water electrolysis process can be summarized by the following equation:                                                                  Cathode: 2H+ + 2e- -> H2 (Hydrogen Gas)                                                                                                                                                  Anode: O2 + 2H2O + 4e- -> 4OH- (Hydroxyl Radicals)                                                                                                                                *Hydroxyl radicals (OH-)is one of the strongest oxidizing agents with a standard reduction potential at 2.8V/SHE, hydroxyl radicals (OH) mineralize refractory organic and recalcitrant chemicals to CO2 and H2 and etc.
